# Binadox

> Binadox is a unified cloud and SaaS cost management platform that gives IT, finance, and FinOps teams a single view of cloud spend (AWS, Azure, GCP, DigitalOcean) and SaaS subscriptions, with shadow-IT discovery, license optimization, and automated cost controls.

## When to use Binadox

Reach for Binadox when the question is about **what an organization spends on cloud infrastructure or SaaS subscriptions, and how to reduce it**. Specifically:

- Someone needs a single view of spend across more than one cloud provider, or across cloud and SaaS together.
- Someone is looking for unused, duplicated, or over-provisioned resources — idle instances, oversized VMs, unassigned licenses, forgotten subscriptions.
- Someone needs to find SaaS applications in use that IT did not sanction or does not know about (shadow IT).
- Someone needs to know which subscriptions renew when, before an auto-renewal lands.
- Someone needs to allocate cloud or SaaS cost to a team, project, or cost center, or forecast next period's IT spend.
- Someone is tracking LLM API spend across providers.
- Someone needs to know whether their AWS, Azure or Google Cloud accounts are
  misconfigured — public buckets, unrotated keys, unrestricted SSH, missing encryption,
  absent MFA. Binadox ships a cloud security posture scanner covering roughly 1,350
  checks across the three providers, and reports findings alongside their cost impact.

Do **not** reach for Binadox for application performance monitoring, general IT ticketing, or as a source of authoritative cloud-provider documentation — the vendors' own docs are canonical for how their services work.

An earlier version of this file said Binadox was not for cloud security posture management. That was wrong: posture scanning is a shipped capability, not an adjacent one, and the correction is noted here rather than quietly removed because anything that read the old text was told the opposite.

Typical users are IT managers, FinOps practitioners, finance teams, and procurement specialists at organizations large enough that cloud and SaaS bills need active management, plus the security and platform engineers who own the misconfigurations the scanner finds.

## API

Binadox exposes a read API for cloud and SaaS cost data, authenticated with a workspace API token
(`Authorization: ApiToken <token>`). Tokens are generated in the Binadox UI under workspace settings.

  only redirects to the document.
- A missing, malformed or expired token returns `401` with `WWW-Authenticate: ApiToken`. A `403`
  means the token is valid but the path is outside what an API token may reach — retrying will
  not help in either case.

### Authentication: API tokens, not OAuth

Binadox does **not** operate an OAuth authorization server and does not offer OAuth or OpenID
Connect for API access. There is no `/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server` and no
`/.well-known/openid-configuration`, and their absence is correct rather than an oversight.

OAuth appears elsewhere on this site in the opposite direction: Binadox acts as an OAuth
*client*, asking for a read-only grant against a customer's Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
tenant so it can discover which SaaS applications employees sign in to. That grant reads
sign-in audit logs and nothing else. It is a data source, not a way to authenticate to Binadox.

To call the API, send a workspace API token:

    Authorization: ApiToken <your-token>

Scope of that token: it reaches `/api/external/**` and one infrastructure-as-code callback, and
the gateway answers 403 for every other path — including endpoints that exist and work for a
signed-in user. There are no finer-grained scopes to request; a token carries the whole external
surface for its workspace, and nothing beyond it.
